grain whiskey
Not single malt
Grain whiskey is whiskey distilled from grains other than malted barley—typically corn, wheat, or rye—and usually produced in continuous column stills rather than pot stills.
The result is lighter and milder than malt whiskey.
Grain whiskey forms the base of most blended Scotch and Irish whiskeys, where it's combined with more flavorful malt whiskeys: The blend uses 60% grain whiskey.
