Large oceanic bird
A goonie is a goofy or awkward person, often used affectionately for someone endearingly clumsy or odd.
The term gained currency from the 1985 film *The Goonies*, about misfit kids on an adventure.
Goonie also refers to albatrosses, especially in sailors' slang, from their ungainly movements on land: We watched the goonies waddle across the beach.
