gold tequila
Caramel-colored Mexican spirit
Gold tequila is tequila with an amber or golden color, typically from added caramel coloring or brief barrel aging.
Most inexpensive gold tequilas are mixtos—blends of agave and other sugars—colored to look aged.
True aged tequilas (reposado, añejo) also appear golden but are labeled by their aging category rather than color: The margarita recipe called for gold tequila.
