gill net
Mesh fish trap
A gill net is a fishing net hung vertically in the water, designed so fish can push their heads through the mesh but not their bodies—when they try to back out, the mesh catches behind their gills.
Commercial fishermen set gill nets across the river during salmon season.
The method is effective but controversial for catching unintended species.
