ghettoisation
Isolating minority groups
Ghettoisation is the process of turning an area into a ghetto—a neighbourhood where a particular group becomes concentrated, often through economic pressure or discrimination.
The term describes both deliberate segregation and gradual demographic shifts: The ghettoisation of immigrant communities in urban peripheries.
It can apply figuratively to any forced marginalization: the ghettoisation of certain academic disciplines.
British spelling; American English uses *ghettoization*.
