gas jet

Stove's blue flame

A gas jet is a small flame produced by burning gas, or the nozzle or burner from which such a flame emerges.

Before electric lighting became widespread, gas jets illuminated homes and streets: The parlor was lit by a single gas jet.

The term also applies to any controlled stream of gas emitted under pressure.
