game film

Recorded match footage

Game film is recorded footage of an athletic contest, reviewed by coaches and players to analyze performance, study opponents, or prepare strategy.

The term comes from the era when games were shot on actual film: We spent hours breaking down game film of their defense.

Now often just called film or tape even when digital.
