galvanometers
Electrical detection instruments
Galvanometers is the plural of galvanometer, an instrument for detecting and measuring small electric currents.
The device works by deflecting a needle or coil in response to current flow—the greater the current, the greater the deflection.
Though largely replaced by digital meters, galvanometers remain in specialized applications and physics education: The lab still uses old galvanometers to teach electromagnetic principles.
