fuse wire
Melts preventing fires
Fuse wire is thin wire designed to melt when electrical current exceeds safe levels, breaking the circuit to prevent damage or fire.
It was the standard protection in older electrical systems before modern circuit breakers: The lights went out when the fuse wire blew.
The wire's thickness determines how much current it can carry before melting.
