front squats

Rack position squats

Front squats are a weightlifting exercise where the barbell rests across the front of the shoulders rather than behind the neck.

The position shifts the load forward, demanding more from the quadriceps and core while requiring greater upper-back mobility: Front squats will humble you if your back squat is strong but your core is weak.

Often used by Olympic lifters to build strength for the clean.
