back squats

Bar-on-shoulders squats

Back squats are a weightlifting exercise where a barbell rests across the upper back and shoulders while the lifter squats down and stands back up.

The "back" distinguishes this from front squats, where the bar sits on the front of the shoulders.

Back squats are foundational in strength training, targeting the quadriceps, glutes, and core: I'm working up to three plates on back squats.
