front-line
Where combat happens
Front-line describes what is at the forefront of activity, danger, or contact.
Originally military—the front line is where opposing forces meet—the term now applies to any position of direct engagement: front-line workers, front-line healthcare.
Front-line staff deal with customers or patients directly, as opposed to those in administrative or support roles.
Also spelled frontline or front line.
