forestage

Thrust toward audience

Forestage is the part of a theater stage that extends in front of the curtain, closest to the audience.

Also called the apron, it allows performers to step outside the main scenic area for direct address, intimate scenes, or action that continues while scenery changes behind the curtain.

The actor delivered his soliloquy from the forestage, breaking the fourth wall.
