foam blaster
Soft projectile launcher
A foam blaster is a toy gun that shoots soft foam projectiles—darts, balls, or discs.
The term encompasses Nerf guns and similar products, useful when discussing the category without naming a specific brand: The kids had a foam blaster battle in the backyard.
Some retailers and parents prefer the term over "gun" to distance the toys from real weapons.
