flycatching
Midair bug nabbing
Flycatching is the act of catching flies or other insects, especially as birds do—darting from a perch to snatch prey mid-flight, then returning.
The term describes both the hunting behavior and the ecological niche occupied by flycatchers and similar insectivorous birds.
Figuratively, it can suggest any quick, opportunistic grabbing: He spent the afternoon flycatching leads at the conference.
