flicks

Slang for movies

Flicks is informal for movies or the cinema: Let's catch a flick, going to the flicks.

The term comes from the flickering of early film projectors.

Flicks is also the plural of flick—a quick, light motion or strike: flicks of the wrist, flicks of a light switch.

To flick is to move something with such a motion: She flicked a crumb off the table.
