educational films
Learning through video
Educational films are movies designed primarily to instruct rather than entertain.
They range from classroom documentaries to corporate training videos to public health campaigns.
The genre flourished in mid-twentieth-century schools, where students watched films on topics from hygiene to driver safety: We watched an educational film about the food pyramid.
The term sometimes carries a whiff of dullness or dated production values.
