flatback
Australian marine reptile
A flatback is a turtle, typically a sea turtle species native to Australian waters, characterized by its unusually flat carapace compared to the domed shells of other sea turtles.
The term also appears in ballet to describe a position where the dancer bends forward from the hips with the back held straight and parallel to the floor.
In antiques, a flatback is a ceramic figurine designed to be viewed only from the front, with an undecorated flat back meant to sit against a wall or mantelpiece.
