fishing season
Legal catch time
Fishing season is the period when fishing for particular species is legally permitted.
Regulations establish seasons to protect fish during spawning or when populations are vulnerable.
Outside fishing season, catching those species is prohibited: Trout fishing season opens in April.
The term also refers more casually to the time of year when fishing conditions are favorable.
