closed season
Wildlife protection period
A closed season is a period when hunting, fishing, or harvesting a particular species is prohibited by law, typically to protect animals during breeding or migration.
The opposite is open season.
In British usage, close season serves the same purpose.
Figuratively, a closed season suggests a time when certain activities are off-limits: It's closed season on political jokes until the election's over.
