fireweed

Post-blaze pioneer plant

Fireweed is a tall wildflower with spikes of pink or magenta blossoms, named for its habit of colonizing burned or disturbed land.

It's among the first plants to appear after forest fires, often carpeting charred landscapes.

The plant is common across northern regions and is the floral emblem of Yukon.

Fireweed had already begun to reclaim the hillside.
