fireweeds

Post-burn bloom colonizers

Fireweeds are plants that colonize burned or disturbed land, most commonly referring to species of *Epilobium* or *Chamerion*, which produce tall spikes of pink or purple flowers.

The name reflects their tendency to appear quickly after wildfires, often being among the first vegetation to return.

Fireweeds had already begun to blanket the hillside a year after the blaze.

In North America, fireweed is also valued for the honey produced from its nectar.
