shade plant
Garden shadow dweller
A shade plant is one that thrives in low-light conditions, typically under tree canopy or on the north side of buildings.
Ferns, hostas, and impatiens are common shade plants.
The term distinguishes them from sun-loving species: I need shade plants for that corner of the yard where nothing else will grow.
