fireblight

Bacterial tree killer

Fireblight is a bacterial disease that attacks apple, pear, and related trees, causing blossoms, leaves, and branches to blacken and wither as if scorched by fire.

The disease spreads rapidly in warm, wet conditions and can kill young trees entirely.

Orchardists control it by pruning infected branches well below visible damage.
