file footage
Previously recorded material
File footage is pre-recorded video material stored for later use in news broadcasts, documentaries, or films.
News programs use file footage when reporting on ongoing stories—showing earlier events, establishing shots of locations, or depicting people no longer available for filming: The report cut to file footage of the senator's 2019 campaign.
Also called stock footage or archive footage.
