filberts
Nuts from orchards
Filberts are hazelnuts—the edible nuts of hazel trees.
The term is used interchangeably with hazelnut, though filbert sometimes refers specifically to cultivated varieties with longer, more oblong shells: Oregon filberts, chocolate-covered filberts.
The name may derive from St.
Philibert's Day, when the nuts traditionally ripen.
