feudal rights
Medieval landowner entitlements
Feudal rights were the privileges and powers held by lords over their land and the people who worked it under the medieval feudal system.
These included the right to collect rents and taxes, demand labor or military service, administer justice, and control aspects of tenants' lives such as marriage and inheritance.
The peasants owed feudal rights to the manor lord.
The term now sometimes describes any arrangement where one party holds excessive power over another's livelihood.
