fetlocks

Equine leg joints

Fetlocks are the tufts of hair that grow behind a horse's ankle, just above the hoof.

The term also refers to the joint itself at that location: The horse had mud caked around its fetlocks.

Fetlocks are prominent in draft breeds like Clydesdales and Friesians, where the hair grows especially long and thick.
