feed lot
Cattle fattening enclosure
A feed lot is an enclosed area where livestock—especially cattle—are confined and fattened for slaughter.
Animals in feed lots eat grain-based diets rather than grazing on pasture: The cattle spend their final months in a feed lot before processing.
Feed lots enable efficient meat production but draw criticism for animal welfare and environmental concerns.
