fat body
Larval energy store
A fat body is an organ in insects and other invertebrates that stores energy and performs metabolic functions similar to the liver and adipose tissue in vertebrates.
In amphibians, fat bodies are paired structures near the gonads that store lipids for reproduction and hibernation.
The term also appears in casual speech for a person considered overweight, used dismissively or as insult: Get out of the way, fat body.
