fanservice
Audience gratification moments
Fanservice is material included in media primarily to please devoted fans rather than serve the story.
In anime and manga, it typically means gratuitous shots of attractive characters in revealing poses or states of undress: The show has a good plot but too much fanservice.
More broadly, it can mean any crowd-pleasing callback, cameo, or reference inserted to delight the audience: The finale was pure fanservice for longtime viewers.
