OVA
Straight-to-home releases
OVA is an acronym for original video animation, referring to anime productions released directly to home video rather than broadcast on television or shown in theaters.
The format emerged in 1980s Japan, allowing studios to create content with higher production values or mature themes unsuitable for TV: The series started as an OVA before getting a full anime adaptation.
Plural: OVAs or OVA.
