fandom drama
Enthusiast group infighting
Fandom drama refers to conflicts, controversies, and interpersonal feuds within fan communities—typically online groups devoted to TV shows, books, games, musicians, or other media.
The drama often involves shipping wars (disputes over romantic pairings), accusations of gatekeeping, battles over canon interpretation, or clashes between fan factions: The fandom drama got so bad that people were sending death threats over a cartoon ship.
The term acknowledges that these disputes, while passionate to participants, often appear trivial to outsiders.
