foul tip
Barely grazed pitch
A foul tip in baseball is a batted ball that goes sharply and directly from the bat to the catcher's mitt and is legally caught.
Unlike other foul balls, a foul tip counts as a strike even on a third strike, resulting in a strikeout if caught.
The ball remains live, so baserunners may be thrown out if they attempt to steal.
The batter struck out on a foul tip with runners on base.
