exclusive-or

One but not both

Exclusive-or is a logical operation that returns true when exactly one of two inputs is true, but not both.

In everyday terms, it's the difference between "you can have soup or salad" (one or the other, not both) versus ordinary "or" which allows both.

In computing and electronics, often abbreviated XOR or written with symbols like ⊕.

The gate outputs 1 only when the inputs differ.
