evening stars
Dusk's first lights
Evening stars are planets visible in the western sky after sunset, most often Venus or Mercury.
The term is poetic and observational rather than astronomical—the same planet that appears as an evening star becomes a morning star when it rises before dawn.
Venus hung low on the horizon, the evening star.
