entry wounds
Where projectiles penetrate
Entry wounds are the holes or damage created where a projectile—typically a bullet—first penetrates the body.
In forensic and medical contexts, entry wounds are distinguished from exit wounds by their characteristics: entry wounds tend to be smaller, rounder, and more regular, often with an abrasion ring around the edges.
The coroner identified two entry wounds in the victim's chest.
The term occasionally appears in figurative contexts describing initial points of damage or infiltration.
