eldorado

Dreamed-of riches

Eldorado is an imagined place of fabulous wealth or opportunity.

The name comes from Spanish for "the gilded one," originally a legendary South American city of gold that lured conquistadors and explorers.

Now it describes any place where riches or success seem guaranteed: Silicon Valley was the eldorado for tech entrepreneurs.

Often capitalized El Dorado.
