echosounders
Underwater depth measurers
Echosounders are devices that measure water depth by sending sound pulses toward the seafloor and timing how long the echoes take to return.
They're standard equipment on ships and boats for navigation and charting.
The same technology, scaled differently, powers fish finders and oceanographic research instruments that map underwater terrain.
