draft night
Rookie picking ceremony
Draft night is the evening when a sports league holds its annual draft, during which teams select new players from a pool of eligible athletes.
In American sports, the NFL and NBA drafts are major televised events: We're having a draft night party.
The term also applies to fantasy sports, when league members gather to pick players for their teams: I can't make dinner Thursday—it's our draft night.
