draft evader
Military service refuser
A draft evader is someone who illegally avoids mandatory military conscription—by fleeing the country, hiding, using fraudulent exemptions, or simply refusing to report.
The term carries judgment; those who see the evasion as principled resistance may prefer draft resister.
During the Vietnam War, thousands of American draft evaders fled to Canada: The draft evader lived in Toronto until the amnesty.
