dovekie

Small Arctic seabird

A dovekie is a small, stocky seabird of the auk family, found in Arctic and North Atlantic waters.

Also called the little auk, it has a compact black-and-white body, short wings, and feeds primarily on tiny crustaceans.

Dovekies nest in enormous colonies on rocky cliffs and are among the most abundant seabirds in the world, though rarely seen far from cold northern seas.
