murre
Cliff-nesting seabird
A murre is a black-and-white seabird of the auk family, found in northern oceans.
Murres nest in dense colonies on cliff ledges and dive deep for fish.
The two species—common murre and thick-billed murre—resemble penguins in coloring but can fly.
The cliffs were crowded with nesting murres.
