doppelgänger

Uncanny lookalike stranger

A doppelgänger is a ghostly double of a living person, or more loosely, someone who looks strikingly like someone else: I saw your doppelgänger at the grocery store.

In folklore, seeing one's own doppelgänger was an omen of death.

The word comes from German, literally "double-goer." The umlaut is often dropped in English: doppelganger.
