director's cuts
Auteur's preferred edits
Director's cuts are versions of films released with changes reflecting the director's original vision rather than the theatrical release shaped by studio demands.
These alternate versions often restore deleted scenes, alter pacing, or change endings: The director's cut runs forty minutes longer.
Some become definitive—Ridley Scott's director's cut of *Blade Runner* is now the standard version.
