diastoles
Cardiac filling phases
Diastoles is the plural of diastole, the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle relaxes and the chambers fill with blood.
It alternates with systole, the contracting phase that pumps blood out.
Blood pressure readings give two numbers: the higher one measures systolic pressure, the lower one diastolic pressure during diastole.
The cardiologist noted that his diastoles were prolonged, suggesting a possible conduction issue.
