detective unit
Crime-solving division
A detective unit is a division within a police department or law enforcement agency staffed by investigators who handle criminal cases.
Unlike patrol officers who respond to incidents as they occur, detective units focus on gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and solving crimes after the fact: The case was handed over to the detective unit for further investigation.
