desmoplasia
Reactive tissue hardening
Desmoplasia is the growth of fibrous connective tissue, especially around a tumor.
The body produces this dense, scar-like tissue in response to cancer cells invading surrounding structures.
Desmoplastic tumors feel hard and woody to the touch.
The phenomenon can make surgical removal difficult and may affect how tumors respond to treatment.
