departed souls
Those who've passed
Departed souls are the spirits of the dead—those who have left the world of the living.
The phrase appears in religious contexts, funeral services, and discussions of the afterlife: We pray for the departed souls of our loved ones.
It carries a solemn, reverent tone, treating death as a journey rather than an ending.
