denitrify
Strip soil nitrogen
Denitrify is to remove nitrogen or nitrogen compounds from something, particularly soil or water.
In environmental science, denitrification is a bacterial process that converts nitrates back into nitrogen gas, completing the nitrogen cycle: Wetlands denitrify agricultural runoff before it reaches the bay.
The opposite process is nitrification.
